Although it is essentially a Spanish film, and one based on one of the most important literary works in the Catalan language, Tirant Lo Blanc by Joanot Martorell, written in the XV century, the film was made in English with an international cast, including actors such as Jane Asher as the Empress, and Casper Zafer in the title role.
The castle from where Tirant rides out (twice) to defeat the Turkish foe near Constantinople, is La Calahorra. On the second occasion, the snowy peaks on the Sierra Nevada are clearly visible.
