RM Alcázar de los Bejarano, Trujillo

The last episode of the seventh season of Game of Thrones also used the castle as the home of the Lannister clan, where we see Jaime Bannister and Ser Bronn of the Blackwater on the battlements watching the advancing army of the unsullied.
As is often the case the Romans were the first to pile stones upon the hill, and indeed some Roman writings are still visible in the walls.
The Arabs started the present castle in the 9th century, making it one of their oldest on the peninsular, and they controlled it until 1142 and then 1165 when it was taken by Christian knights of the Order of Santiago but twice re-taken by the Arabs until 1232, when the Reconquest arrived definitively.
In the 14th century, the treasurer of King Pedro I of Castilla, Samuel Leví, chose the castle to store the king’s treasure, considering it one of the strongest castles in the kingdom.
The Alcázar de los Bejarano is named after one of the Portuguese families that participated in the Reconquest of Extremadura, and who were rewarded in consequence.
It is located next to the Triumph Gate, through which Christian soldiers finally entered Trujillo.
